Maccha Mahura:- When you belong to the coastal area of  Odisha which is surrounded with lots of rivers and a huge beautiful bay of Bengal then you are bound to fell in love with fish n sea food, Fish which is a gift of nature to the people of coastal Odisha. May be that’s the reason m a big fan of any fish dish and this one is  the most nutritious recipe of fish, fish head cooked with locally grown vegetables with little bit of spice, gives it a unique taste and the interesting thing about this recipe is, it's people's favourite during any community lunch or festive feast of every village of coastal Odisha.. because it's prepared in large quantities with the particular part of  the fish  which most people  are not  willing  to eat  which is head n tail, so to make it interesting they cook it with  some locally grown vegetables, few lentils n some spices which gives it’s an indefinite taste .

Method: -

 

In a kadai fry the fish head and tail along with some salt n turmeric, keep aside.

 

Make a fine paste of onion, garlic, ginger, cumin, cinnamon, black pepper n dry chilly and keep aside. Soak the chana dal for half an hour and jeep aside.

 

Heat oil in a kadhai and once it is hot, add panchaphutan, bay leaves n dry chilly after it starts splutter, add all the chopped vegetables into this and fry for some minutes, add the soaked chana dal onto this and again Sautee them for few minutes.

 

Then add chopped tomatoes and the masala into this and Cover and cook till the masalas leaves the oil from sides. Then add the fresh heads n tails and fry it.

After this add enough amount of water and cover n cook till vegetables  and dal completely cooked, before switching off the flame check the water consistency n check the seasoning.

 

Sprinkle the roasted cumin n dry chilly powdered and coriander on top and serve hot.

 

Serve Macha Mahura along with Steamed Rice.
