Bengali style chicken curry

Sunday special Chicken curry/ Murgir Jhol. For me Sunday means more family time and less cooking, but also wants to make something special for my family ,so this is my always good to go recipe along with some plain steamed rice. This recipe is a ritual of every Bengali household to make this on Sunday . Being an Odia, I also know this recipe because both Bengali and Odia cuisine are influenced by each other, we both loves our mustard oil, Panchaphutana & Potatoes 😊😊 so here is the recipe

Ingredients:-
500 gm Chicken
2 1/2 cup Onion (finely chopped)
2 tbsp Ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Red chili powder
2 tbsp Green chili (chopped)
1 tbsp Cumin/jeera powder
1/2 tsp Garam masala
1 Black cardamom
1 Cinnamon stick
2 Green cardamom
4 Cloves
2 Bay leaf
1/2 cup Thick curd/ yogurt
1/2 cup Mustard oil
1/2 tsp Sugar
Salt to taste

Method:-
Wash the chicken pieces and marinate with turmeric powder, ginger- garlic paste, salt and curd.
Heat oil in a pan, add whole spices, bay leaf. Fry for few sec then add onion. Fry onion till golden brown, then add ginger-garlic paste, green chilli, cumin powder, turmeric and red chilli powder. Fry for few min then add chicken.

Fry chicken along with masala on high flame for few minute then turn the flame down to low - medium for 40-45 mins. Cover with a lid and keep stirring in between.
Now add a cup of hot water or more to get the desired consistency of gravy. Check salt, add garam masala powder. Cover and let it cook on low flame 10 mins. Switch off the flame and garnish with corriander leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice .
