Small fish in mustard gravy/ Chuna maccha besara



ଚୁନା ମାଛ ବେସର/ Chuna maccha Besara/ Small fish with mustard paste.We Odia people loves our mustard oil n mustard paste. I mean, mustard to an Odiya kitchen is like Onion-tomatoes to any kitchen. If you are fish lover n likes the pungent flavours of mustard,then this the perfect recipe. Perfectly blend of mustard n tomato based gravy.. creates a magic on taste buds. So here is the recipe:-

Ingredients:-

Smelt Fish(Maurali machha) – 250gm
Tomato chopped -2
Onion chopped -1
Green chilli silt -2
Panch Phuran- ½ tsp
Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
Mustard paste(Make fine paste out of Mustard seeds- 1 tsp, Cumin- 1 tsp. Garlic cloves-6 & Red chili-3)
Mustard oil- 5 tbsp
Salt to taste

Method:-

Clean and wash fishes in running water.

Marinate with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside.
Heat mustard oil in a fry pan and fry the fishes till they turn golden color. Take out and keep aside.

Heat mustard oil and add Panch phuran, Green chili, onion. Sauté them and fry them till it turns golden color.

Add tomato, fry it for 3 minutes.

Add masala paste and turmeric powder and sauté and fry them for 5 minutes.

Add little more than ½ cup of water, dry mango and salt. When the masala start boiling, add fried fishes and cover the lid.

Cook in low flame. When the gravy becomes little thick turn off the gas.

Now your favorite MAURALI MACHHA MASALA is ready.
