Tomato Rasam


Tomato rasam/ charu.. usually I called it charu, because my whole childhood i called this charu.but when  I came to Bangalore at that time i know ..ohh this is called rasam.it's a very popular South Indian traditional soup which is used as a side dish with rice in meals.I prepare this rasam, because this is my little one favorite .So here is the recipe ..

Ingredients:-
4 tomatoes
2-3 cups water ( if need,use more to make it thin)
2 tbsp ghee or oil
4-6 Curry leaves
Chopped coriander
1/2 tsp mustard seed
1 pinch of Asafoetida or Hing
2 dried red chilly
2 tbsp rasam powder( ready made or u can make it yourself)
1/4 tsp haldi powder/ turmeric powder
6 large garlic crushed
Salt as per your taste
Homemade Rasam powder:-
roast 1 to 2 red chilly,1 tsp jeera, 4 -5 black peppers,1/4 tsp fenugreek/ methi, 2 tbsp corriander seeds, 2 tbsp chanadal in a low heat,till they aromatic.cool it n make a fine powder.keep this aside.
**Skip this step if you are using ready made Rasam powder.**
Method:-
In a cooker put the tomatoes, salt,haldi powder Rasam powder n water,whistle it for 3 whistle in high heat.cool it down,then remove the tomatoes . Make a smooth  tomato puree,then add this tomato to the remaining water.if need ,add more water to make this thin.make it as tomatoes juice.for tadka, add oil in a pan,put a pinch of asafoetida, dry redchilly, mustard seeds n cursed garlic,fry it releases aroma,add the tomatoes juice into this.covered it n simmered it for few minutes.allow to boil n simmer till the Rasam slightly thickens. Add chopped coriander leaves.switch off the stove.
