Desi chicken Chilly

Desi chicken chilly/country chicken chilly...frankly speaking I don't know the exact name of this recipe, ate this at my sister's in-laws house for the very first time. Mausa (Her father-in-law) made this for us when we were newly married & we were invited to their house for "Juain charcha". In Odisha there's little custom, where newly married couples are invited to all the close relatives house and treated with tons of delicious goods as if they are so special,ha ha 😅. let's leave that topic and come back to our hero dish, so mausa called it desi chicken chilly. I learned this recipe from him. Naati/desi chicken cooked in mustard oil with lots of chopped ginger, garlic n green chilies which gives a different zesty n hot flavor.

Ingredients:-

Country/Nati/Desi chicken - 500gm
Garlic - 15/20 clove (finely chopped)
Ginger - 1 inch (finely chopped)
Greenchilly - 2 finely (chopped)
Onion - 3 (finely chopped)
Tomato - 1(chopped)
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Mustard oil - 3 tbsp
Bay leaves - 1
Black pepper - 4/5
Cinnamon sticks - 1
Dry red chilly - 2
Turmeric powder- 1 tbsp
Chicken masala - 1 tbsp
Salt - As per taste

Method:-

Clean & wash the chicken properly. First take big bowl marinate the chicken with 1 tbsp of mustard oil, turmeric powder, chicken masala ,salt n ginger- garlic paste. Leave it for half an hour.

Heat a heavy bottom kadai, add rest of mustard oil till it reaches to the smoking point. Add the bay leaves followed by the, dry red chilly, cinnamon and back pepper into the hot oil. Fry till they turn fragrant.

Put onions and fry till the onions slightly change colours then add the marinated chicken into this and fry them on low flame till they stop oozing water. You do not have to stir continuously. Keep the lid on the kadai without completely closing it. Stir once every few minutes. This process takes a long time around 40-45 minutes. Once you see that the chicken pieces are start leaving oil

Then add the chopped tomatoes, ginger, garlic and green chilies. Again fry them for 10-15 minutes till the chicken cooked. Switch off the flame, Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it with roti, naan or paratha.
