Ghuguni


Ghuguni/ Dried yellow peas curry...who doesn't love ghuguni, you can pair it with anything..be it Idly,dosa,rice,Paratha or with the world famous bara/urad ldal vada..It goes very well with everything..even ghuguni chaat can also be eaten separately . Its a very famous street food of Odisha. Made of dried yellow/green peas , spiced up with regular Indian spices, it’s a healthy and delicious option for chaat ..whenever I make this,always make a huge batch so that I can enjoy this with a variety of things.

so here's the recipe...

Ingredients:-

Yellow Peas – 1 cup
Potato – 1
Salt – to taste
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Red Chili Powder – 1 tsp
Onion – 1
Ginger-Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Tomato – 1
Cumin seeds- 2 tsp
Coriander seeds- 2 tsp
Bay leaves- 2
Green cardamom - 1/2
Cinnamon stick - ½inch
Dry red chilly - 2
Mustard Oil – 2 tbsb

Method:-

  • Soak yellow peas for overnight or 4-5 hours in water.
  • Make a fine paste of onions, tomato,ginger-garlic,cumin seeds,coriander seeds,bay leaves,green cardamom, cinnamon stick ,dry red chilly .
  • In a pressure cooker, heat oil and put bay leaves. Add the masala paste and fry till golden brown.
  • Add turmeric n red chilly powder.
  • When masala is well cooked, add the soaked peas and add 2 cups of water or more, until the peas submerged in water.
  • Pressure cook it till 1 whistle on low flame. When cools down, open and check if the dried peas are cooked or not.if not then give one more whistle on medium flame.
  • garnish with coriander leaves.
